What this is

Psybir designs, builds and runs the website, search presence and customer journey that help people find your business, trust it and take the next step. After launch we keep improving it, with one named person responsible for the work and a monthly page showing what went live and what changed.

Every job starts from five questions, in the owner's words

  1. 01Can people find us?Show up where they look.
  2. 02Do they trust us?Look like the safe choice.
  3. 03Do they contact, book or buy?Make the next step easy.
  4. 04Does the market know us?Be talked about for real reasons.
  5. 05What should happen next?One recommendation, not a menu.

What decides who shows up on the map

It is not a popularity contest. First a business has to be eligible. Then it gets chosen.

  1. A search

Someone types “plumber near me” at 7:40 on a Tuesday night.

Google has a few seconds to pick three businesses for the map. Everyone else is below the fold.

  2. Google's three words

    Relevance. Distance. Prominence.

Google says local results come mainly from how well a profile matches the search, how far the business is from the person searching, and how well known it is: links, reviews, ratings.

Source: Google Business Profile help, “Tips to improve your local ranking on Google”, read 12 Oct 2026

  3. Top factor 1

    Primary category

The search is matched to what the business says it is. Pick the wrong primary category and you are not in the race.

  4. Top factor 2

    Distance to the searcher

Closer to the person searching counts, and it is the one thing an owner cannot change.

Source: Whitespark 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, expert opinion of 47 practitioners, not Google's weights

  5. Top factor 3

    The business name

The real name is read as a relevance signal. Stuffing keywords into it is a suspension risk, not a strategy.

Source: Whitespark 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, expert opinion of 47 practitioners, not Google's weights

  6. Top factor 4

An address in the city being searched

Inside the city line beats just outside it.

Source: Whitespark 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, expert opinion of 47 practitioners, not Google's weights

  7. Top factor 5

Open at the time of the search

Closed right now often means not shown at all, whatever the reviews say. Hours are a ranking setting.

Source: Whitespark 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, expert opinion of 47 practitioners, not Google's weights

  8. Top factors 6 and 9

Rating, and reviews with real text

Among the businesses still eligible, a 4-to-5 rating and a steady stream of written reviews help decide the order.

Source: Whitespark 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, expert opinion of 47 practitioners, not Google's weights

  9. Top factor 7

    The street address is showing

A visible address, not only a drawn service area. Rank follows the pin Google believes.

Source: Whitespark 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, expert opinion of 47 practitioners, not Google's weights

  10. The pack

    Three make it.

Eligible first, then chosen. That is the whole game on the map, and almost all of it is checkable.

  11. Matters less than people think

    The bottom of the list

    • Geotagged photos
    • Follower counts
    • Buying Google ads
    • Keywords stuffed into owner replies

These sit at the bottom of the 187 map-pack factors the panel scored.

  12. And in AI answers

    A different shelf

When the answer comes from an AI assistant instead of the map, the panel's top signals change:

    • Being on expert best-of lists
    • A real page for each service
    • Being prominent on industry sites
    • Mentions in news, blogs and associations

Trusted

Trust in ten seconds

When someone lands on a business they decide in about three seconds:

are these people legit and local, do they do my exact thing, is this going to be a headache.

Every line on this card answers one of those.

Came out at 8 pm for a burst pipe, showed us the photo of the fix, price matched the quote.

Owner replied the next morning:

Thanks Dana. Glad we caught it before the ceiling did.

The system behind it

The system gathers and checks. A person decides.

Every claim keeps its evidence.

The details are the business. The idea is simple.

Missing a field? Set aside and labelled. Never counted as zero.

Still frame: a search becomes pages, pages become records, records are verified and enriched, incomplete ones are set aside as not measured, a person approves, and a receipt comes back.

Looking for people

I'm looking for people who design, build or prompt well.

Paid part-time or project work, tools provided, you learn the whole path from brief to shipped, and you work next to real clients.

Show me something you made.
